In light of the evolving organizational landscape across the UN system, building on the UN80 reform agenda’s emphasis on transformation and collaboration, IOM, UN Geneva, UN Secretariat in New York, UNDP, UNHCR and WHO have launched the Career Transition Series: Pivoting Outside the UN System.  This inter-agency initiative responds to the growing need for practical career transition support, helping UN personnel navigate change and explore professional opportunities in the private and non-UN sectors.

Whether you are directly affected or proactively planning your next steps, this series will provide you with practical tools, expert insights, and the confidence to successfully pivot in today's evolving job market.

Session 17: Career Transition Readiness Programme for UN Staff

Session Description: The Career Transition Readiness Programme includes five 90-minute themes:

  • Private Sector 101: Understanding business priorities, career paths, and culture. 

  • Design Your Career: Mapping career options using design thinking. 

  • Effective Job Search: Networking-based job search tailored to UN professionals. 

  • Application Materials: Translating your UN experience into compelling CVs, cover Letter, and LinkedIn profiles. 

  • The Salary Conversation: Navigating job offers, onboarding processes and compensation negotiations.

Session 18: Career move to Valencia: Tips for Staff and Partners 

Date & Time: TBC, 14:00-15:30 (Geneva)

Session Description: This session covers key aspects of relocation to Valencia with a focus on partners and family support. It introduces the city of Valencia and its services, outlines administrative requirements, and addresses employment and education support for partners and family members. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage directly with relevant stakeholders, ask questions, and explore available support services and resources.
