English: Writing Everyday Texts in UN 2.0 (UN III) - IN-PERSON

Course Objective

In the evolving landscape of UN 2.0, effective communication through writing is paramount. Embracing technological advancements and seamlessly integrating them into our work processes can be particularly challenging for non-native English writers. Our intensive two-day workshop is designed to empower you with the skills needed to navigate this dynamic environment successfully and build your writer autonomy.

Content

Over the course of two days, our workshop will focus on everyday writing, including emails, interactions on platforms like Teams, texts, collaborative documents, and note-taking for meeting minutes, summaries, social media posts, or articles. You will learn to identify the purpose of your writing, the intended audience, and the desired impact. We will explore how to use artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance your writing, how to distinguish between opinion and fact and convey them effectively and how to build your reader’s trust. Additionally, you will embrace plain language principles to streamline your communication for both your benefit and that of your readers.

Methodology / Approach

Our approach centres on real United Nations documents, which we will analyse and refine together. You will be introduced to digital tools and gain proficiency in their effective utilisation. As you progress, you will build confidence and understand the importance of writing to express rather than impress. Before the course begins, you will have a one-on-one coaching session with your tutor, in which you will identify the specific areas you need to improve. After the workshop, a post-course coaching session will validate your progress and provide guidance on practices and resources for ongoing enhancement.

Evaluation

You will be evaluated through: your attendance, tasks completed and online platform participation.
