English: Intermediate Discussion (UN II) - IN-PERSON

Course Objective

The goal of this course is to revise and reinforce your listening and speaking skills at intermediate level to better understand and participate in everyday exchanges, both personal and professional.

Content

Through learning how to talk about yourself, your world, and your domestic and professional life, you will build your confidence in interacting in English at an intermediate level. You will also develop strategies for listening and speaking, analyse the language used and acquire useful vocabulary and expressions. The topics relate to workplace and personal experience, news and the media, culture, social life and UN themes. You will also develop your use of grammar in context and improve your pronunciation.

Methodology / Approach

In class, you will listen to a variety of authentic recorded media, including UN-specific sources, and discuss the topics. You will also practise your listening in daily situations, such as receiving instructions, extracting information and following conversations. You will learn with a communicative approach, interacting with other students. The approach will be collaborative, developing your ability to relay points, express opinions and take part in routine interactions.

Evaluation

You will be evaluated through your attendance at a minimum of eight sessions. You will have no tasks to do before or after the sessions.
