Course Objectives

This  self-paced or half-day workshop is among the series of programmes which are mandatory for all UN Staff. In addition, it is offered to UN Staff members' spouses. The programme was designed in view of the UN's forward-looking and comprehensive policy on HIV/AIDS, adopted in 1991.

This UN Personnel Policy on HIV was introduced to educate all staff and their families on questions related to this illness and to build greater awareness on the subject matter. Moreover, it is established to ensure that a person's HIV status is his/her own affair and must be treated by the UN and all its offices as confidential at all times.

(ref.ST/SGB/2003)

This UN Cares programme was developed within the framework of the United Nations HIV/AIDS Personnel Policy and the ILO Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS and the world of work. As an interagency initiative, it is designed to inform UN staff and their family members how to protect themselves from HIV, where to go for care and treatment if they are living with HIV, as well as to understand the UN policy on HIV in the workplace and to create a workplace free from stigma and discrimination.

The experience will give you further insight on what it means:

  • to protect yourself and your partner before or after exposure to risk

  • to build a supportive workplace without any discrimination

Target audience
